I have walked more miles than I could possibly count in my lifetime in search of great trees, the bigger and older the better, warriors of a timeless order whose energy and body languages connected me with the infinite, the great spirit, like gate keepers to an ancient wisdom, there for those with the heart to feel it.
One of the few things I miss about the U.k is the many old woodlands, that said, I watched many go into terminal declines with many of the best failing in the decades leading to my leaving the u.k. The greatest loss for me personally was the Mighty Frishden Beech, a tree that featured in the Harry Potter films. Despite efforts to encourage efforts to save it, and even offering my considerable experience in the field of veteran tree management it sadly collapsed the year I left. That was for me, the final sign, as though the old Ents I had loved for so long were signalling it was my time to move on, to a more naturally empathic way of living.
The Photo Gallery below is my tribute to the many old trees i met and loved, enjoy, behold their majesty.
The Mighty Frishden Beech, finding this ancient old queen lying on the ground one day was one of the most traumatic losses I will ever experience.
