From Arborist to Artisan- I have been a profesional arborist for over 35 years, and turned to turning nearly ten years ago to express my creativity and also to salvage wood that for the most part was under valued and utilised within the urban context. Turning and or designing stunning individual pieces from natures greatest material inspires me, and feeds my soul
Each piece is designed to fit the space and according to your requests. I start with a consultation to find out what you're looking for. Then, I will send you design sketches, and we'll work together to finalize a design you love. Then, I get to spinning wood!
I create pieces you can enjoy for years to come. If you ever encounter a design flaw or craftsmanship issue, I will fix or replace the piece–you only pay shipping. I'm also always available to help you you maintain the look of your wood.
Hello and welcome! thanks for visiting my page, I am Antony, Woodturner, Arborist, Mycologist, Nature photographer and all round Nemophilist! ( Haunter of the woods) This is a new website so forgive the lack of content for the time being, but I want to take a moment here just to tell you all about who I am, and what I do. Obviously to begin with I will be mostly covering my artistic work with wood, particularly the turning of one of a kind items. As time goes on I will add the many other subjects that encompass who I am, as woodwork is but a small part of my life here on the Rositsa River in Bulgaria.
I was born and raised in Watford, North London but moved to Bulgaria in 2015 to lead a more sustainable existence and to pursue my dream of a new career in Woodturning after 30 plus years within the Arboricultural sector. During my now 35 years as a practicing arborist and due to my utter devotion to the natural world I became a keen and now professional mycologist and nature photographer. I started woodturning as I had always wanted to, but the motivation was the wood that was being under utilised within the urban management of trees in parks and gardens. It became apparent that to continue living in harmony with nature I would have to change my lifestyle, considerably. I could not afford to buy a small farm in the U.K and even if I could legislations, Bureaucracy and other factors made it impossible to really live a more harmonious lifestyle.
I bought a small, run down homestead in rural Bulgaria, right on the Rositsa river and have been working to rebuild, restore and improve the land so that I can and now do produce most of my own needs. I grow most of my own vegetables, make my own preserves, and have chickens with the main body of the site reserved for permaculture and agroforestry. This enables me to sustain a near carbon neutral existence far from city lights, and at night I get to stare into the rift and see what is for many a rare sight., the night sky here in the outback and beyond is spiritually enlightening. It is not an easy existence, by any stretch of the imagination! but its blessings are many and it is although a tough way to live, food for the mind, body and soul.
Rest assured that everything I do, is ethical, done with the utmost attention and dedication to nature, made with love, because as Gandhi once said '' If you do anything in life, do it with love or not at all''
Sustainable living, old trees, fungi, wooden art, alternative lifestyle experiences and more, much much more, to be continued.....
